The staff, students, and parents of Fortis Academy are proud of the academic success achieved since our school opened in 2004. Fortis students excel in the standardized assessment given by the State of Michigan (MEAP) and in the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) Measures of Academic Progress (MAP), a National Heritage Academies assessment administered to the students three times a year.
Fortis students continue to outperform elementary and middle schools in our surrounding communities and in the State of Michigan. Fortis Academy met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and is an A-rated school. An average of eighty-one percent of Fortis Academy students in Grades 3-8 scored a Level 1: Advanced or Level 2: Proficient on the Fall 2008 MEAP.
Fortis Academy has received awards in other areas as well. In April 2009 Fortis Academy was recognized by the State of Michigan as a Michigan Green School. This recognition was a result of our efforts towards recycling, gardening, and reducing energy use, among other things. No one individual can take credit for this award – it is truly a testament to our proactive attitude and teamwork.
Fortis Academy was the recipient of the 2008 National Heritage Academies Eagle Award for Employee Engagement. This award was given for the high level of overall satisfaction measured by the annual Employee Survey.
